Evaluation

I have researched two bands and one artist, they all kind of link in with each other because of the style of music and their originality. The chosen ones are The Drums, Florence and the Machine and Paolo Nutini. I have written about them and i have put an image to show who they are and also a music video to show you what their style is and their music.

I have also researched two fashion photographers which show different styles of technique and locations that they do within their work. I have a few images that are my favorite ones and i am going to inspire my work based on a few of them.
I am going to do a shoot in the studio and on location and once i am happy with a few images i am going to  chose my favorite images and then develop them further. I will use different props/ styles of clothes based upon my bands and artists e.g. florence and the machine i will take photographs which look similar to the ones which the photographer has taken.

Models- Ayrton Cooper, Laura Chalkley, Ebony Machin and Lily Ward.
These are my own images which i have taken on different locations, I have chosen these from a variety of images that i took.
I took them outside ontop of an old bridge, a canal path and inside. I have tried to link some of my images with a few photographers which i have researched Jason Christopher and i have also linked in the bands Florence and the Machine and The Drums within it too.
1. This image was taken on a canal path in Stretton where there are trees and bushes, i thought this would be good to take a few images. I told Ayrton to stand how he thinks a male model would stand, I think Ayrton has done a good pose here because i like the way that he has his head at the angle which its at and the way that his hands are positioned. I also like the way that his facial pierecings look effective in this image.
2. The next three images i am going to talk about are based on the image of The Drums where they are all standing on pillars. I think that this is really effective and i like the way that each image is different and they are pulling different poses. The thing i would change about this image is i would of taken more images of Lily because i think this image looks like she is frightened of falling.
3. This image of Ebony i really like, because i like the grin she is giving the camera and the way she is positioned. I like how her arms are positioned too.
4. Out of all of the images of them standing on the pillars, this is my favourite, because i think this image Ayrton looks the most comfortablist about standing on it and his facial expression shows it all. I also like the way that he stands out really well and what he is wearing stands out with the darkness of the background. The only thing i would change about the three images is find a location where all three models are standing on a pillar each at the same time and also about this picture either have it the same positioning as the other too or change the positioning of the other two.
5. We are now getting to the group photo's where they are getting together and looking like a music band. Before i took this image i told each one of them to stand differently, and they did it well because not one of them are standing the same. I have based this image on The Drums also because i liked the way they look an image and not one of the band members were standing the same or doing the same thing. I also told the models to look at the camera with a kind of straight face with not alot of emotion in, and again they have done what they have been told. I really like this image because i think the fact there is a fence in the background works well. I could see this kind of style working on an album cover.
6. This image was taken ontop of an olden bridge which is also in Stretton. I told all four models to sit in a straight line with their backs straight too, and i also wanted them to look to the right of them and focus on a blue van which was parked up.
7. I really like this image because i like they way they are all standing and the position they are standing also. I also like the way they are all looking at the camera, i can see this image style on a cover of an album.
8. This image is simular to image six, but this is different because i took this image lying down on the floor and this one they were still focusing on the blue van. I think this looks very effective.
9. This is the last of the images which i took outside and i really like this one. The thing i like most about it is the facial expression Ayrton is giving and the way Ebony and Lily are standing. I really like how the bridge and brick are in the background .
10. These images are the ones which i have based on the photographer Jason Christopher and his work. This image is based on the one where there is a man on his own with a white background. I have used all the models to see if i like them all being in it, but i didnt so i did singular shots. But i do like how Ayrton and Lily are standing and what actions they are doing.
11&12. These images of Lily i think are very good. Image 11 is more of a close up of her and image 12 is in the distance more, but i really like how they have turned out and i think they look simular to Jason Christophers image.
13&14. This goes the same for images 13 and 14 because i have done the same with Ebony but one one image done a different pose the one where she is looking down. I really like the way she looks clear and the way she stands out with the white background behind her.
15. This image i have used Ebony and Lily and based it on the image of Florence Welch when she is doing a similar pose. I think this looks good but i dont think the two people work i think just one person works.
16. This image works because it is just Ebony doing it herself and i like the way she stands out. I also like the way her mouth is because i think it looks like the Florence image.
17. I like this image because i like the way Ebony is looking directly at the camera with a slight grin on her face. I think this would work for an album cover of a solo artist.

The Drums are an american indie pop and from New York. The members within the group are;
Jonathan Pierce- Vocals
Jacob Graham- Guitar
Connor Hanwick- Drums
In December 2009 the band were shortlisted as one of the 15 music acts for the BBC Sound of 2019, they were placed 5th on the list. The band appeared in Cliche Magazine and also NME. In February 2010 the band played at venues around the UK on the 2010 NME Awards Tour, alongside florence and the machine, bombay bicycle club and the maccabees. In June 2010 they played as one of the support acts for Kings of Leon and were the support act for Florence and the Machine. And also on the 7th May they appeared on the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross performing their hit 'best friend'.

In image 1. it shows the band in an empty room with only just a few musical instruments a guitar, an amp a set of drums and a microphone. I like this image because i like the position the band are standing in. I also like the way they are all not doing the same thing.
Image 2. looks like they are standing on sand but wetish sand and also in the background there are hills. This image isn't one of my favorites.
This image 3. is my favourite image of the 4, because i like the way that the are standing on the bollards, it looks very affective and i also like how they are all not doing the same pose each one of them are doing something different. I will definately base one of my images on this style.
Image 4. is one of my favourites aswell because i like the way that the band are standing on a plain white brick wall. I like the way they are standing and the outfits that they are wearing, i think it works really well.

Florence and the Machine

Florence and the Machine is an English group made up of four members;
Florence Welch
Robert Ackroyd
Tom Monger
Christopher Lloyd Hayden
Florence and the Machine's sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including rock and soul. The band's music has received a lot of praise across the music media before they gained mainstream success. The band had a debut album 'Lungs' which was released in July 2009.
Florence has her own style and she stands out from everyone else.

In the three images that i have chosen to show florence and the machine, the first image is my favourirte because i like the way that it has been shot in a studio with the white background and Florence Welch stands out really well. I also like the way that she is posing and the facial expresion she is pulling, and pointing to her t-shirt. I really like what she is wearing too it works really well within this picture.
The second picture is a good picture too because of the way she is sitting and the background. I really like the colours within this image because it fits in with the whole 'floral' theme.
The last image is Florence and the Machine's album cover for 'Lungs' i really like this album cover because there are oversized lungs showing on Florence. It works well and fits in with the theme really well.

Jason Christopher is a fashion photographer who is based in LA. His work has been described as Classic, romantic and clean. These are three qualities that make up a perfect image and Jason nails it every time.

1. I like this image because i like the way that the way that the model is in a corner of a room and the way he is just staring straight at the camera. I like how the lighting is too. The only thing i would change about the image is what the model is wearing, i would of put him in something more fashionable.
2. I really like this image because of the way there are four people staring into the distance in a field where there is grass overgrown, this makes it look very affective. Like the other image the only thing i would change is what they are wearing. Another thing that i like about this image is the clouds that the way on the left it goes blue, white and grey clouds.
3. I like this image because of the way the model is just sitting in the bath in an unusual way. I have to admit this isn't my favorite image.
4. i really like the way that the model is staring onto the ground and in the image the background is really affective because of the sunset and the trees, it looks really good. I would also think to use this type of background for myself.
7. This is my favorite image because of the background which is in a forest/wood. i really like the way the model is standing, it is a really unusual pose, this image looks like something 'Florence Welch' form the band 'Florence and the Machine' would use.  I think it is really affective and the way the lighting is too looks very well with the image.

David Turner is a photographer which is a very good photographer. He used to be a senior lecturer at Buckingham Chilterns University College. For years he was responsible for much of the college's photographic needs. He has many years of extensive experience of both teaching and in photography.

I have chosen my favorite images from David Turner.
1. I like how the model is posing and how the lighting and the shading is seen on his skin. On this image it looks like he has been taking the pictures in the studio, due to the background of just being a plain grey  background. It also looks like the model is resting his left arm on something because that is the arm which he is resting his weight on.
2. I really like this image because i like how plain and simple it is. The model is obviously up to date with fashion and its a great fashion shot. I also like the way there is a big canvas with bright pinks and reds, it works very well with the white background and the white flooring.
3. I also like this image because of how simple it is also. It has a great background colour an flooring, and the way the model is dressed stands out really well on this image. It is a dark picture and i also like the way the model is positioned because he looks very mysterious.
4. I think this image is my favorite image because it is obviously shot in a studio or a place with a good strong background. I also like the contrast of colours and the black and white works really well. I think this would be a really good place to model my artist/band. I also like the angle that the camera is underneath the model.
5,6,7. These images are my favorite ones of the 7, because i like the way each of the pictures are and the contrasts in each of the images. In image 5 i like the way that the model is walking in an outdoor environment and she is infront of a push bike which is parked up and infront of a house which has green plants crawling up. The way the model is posing looks very natural as she is smiling a little bit. The shadow of her works really well too.
Image 6 is a really good strong photograph because the model is sitting on a staircase in a peachy coloured costume looking into a big mirror. I like the way that the lighting is and the way that the model is sitting. It works really well and i would use this as a background for my artist/band.
Image 7. this is my favorite image of them all. I like the way that the model is wearing a golden ball gown and that the is standing on the staircase with both of her arms on the brown wooden banister. i think the thing i like most about it is the lighting. This will be one of the top choices to base the background of my chosen band.

Paolo Nutini

Paolo Nutini is a 23 year old Scottish singer/ songwriter, with an Italian family background.
He had two debut albums 'These Streets' which has songs such as 'Jenny don't be hasty', 'last request' and 'rewind'. His second album is his recent one called 'Sunny Side Up', which has produced singles such as 'Candy', 'Pencil full of lead' and 10/10.
He has played at festivals such as; Glastonbury, Leeds and the Isle of Wight.
The genre of music which he sings is pop rock, blue eyed soul and a little bit of the blues. He also plays the  guitar and piano.

In this photograph Paolo is sitting on something which looks like the top of a building because of the background which is buildings and he looks quite high up. Also he is looking behind his left shoulder and holding his guitar. I think the effect works really well with this photograph because it brings out the dark colours which works well.
